Developing Whānau Aspirations
Whānau Resilience is an initiative that aims to create strong, resilient communities where whānau are supported to live violence free and to eliminate violence for the next generation. People experiencing and using violence often need help at different times in their lives, so Whānau Resilience offers long-term support when people need it.
This initiative brings key changes to how we work with providers, including a new procurement process for providers, longer term contracts, and a shift from a nationally designed and delivered model to a regionally designed and delivered model. At the heart of this process is the embedding of whānau voice

TE ARA MĀTUA
-
Namunamu Whānau Support Service
-
Support provided to whānau with children who have been identified through a 'report of concern' with Oranga Tamariki.
-
Where possible, whānau are diverted to the Te Ara Mātua iwi space with a provider assistance.
-
Support and advocacy is given to assist the whānau to address areas of concern so they and their tamariki are taken of the watch list.
-
Where possible, whānau connection with wider community are strengthened to provide better longterm support.
-
Better supports are put in place within the community and with kaupapa Māori providers to provide assist struggling whānau before mandatory Oranga Tamariki interventions.
-
Even after 'reports of concern' Te Ara Mātua can provide an alternative pathway away from Oranga Tamariki.
-
If escalated to Oranga Tamariki interventions, tamariki and their whānau can be supported to transition out as soon as possible, with the right types of support.

SUPPORTED
ACCOMMODATION
-
Supported Housing Key Element
-
Warm, dry, and secure housing along with the right support services helps people to build better lives.
-
Once housed people are better positioned to focus on other aspects of their lives such as finding work, engaging in education or training, contributing to their communities, or accessing medical care.
-
People in need should be able to access housing support for as long as needed.
-
When a person or family is ready, there is additional assistance and support for people to rent or buy in the private sector. This frees up social housing for people in greater need.
